St. Joseph School… A great place to grow

 

Congratulations!

Congratulations to three of our VFW writing contest finalists! I am proud to announce that Christine   (1st place), Katelynn (2nd place) and Kelly (3rd place) were honored for their work on the  “Patriots Pen” writing contest sponsored by the Wentzville VFW post. Each of the girls received a monetary award for their efforts. Bravo girls!!!


Open House/ Chili Supper/Re-registration

Tonight is the Open House/Chili supper from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Re-registration packets will be available for pick-up during this event. Thank you for picking them up this evening.  Please read the blue Finance Sheet enclosed in your packet as there are some increases for the 2012-2013 school year.  We ask you to return the re-registration form, along with your check for $100.00 registration fee per child, no later than Friday, February 17th.


Confirmation Meeting

There will be a Confirmation Meeting for Grades 7/8 next Wednesday, February 8th at 7:00 pm in the school cafeteria.

 

Conflict Resolution Presentation

Saundra Barker from Catholic Family Services has rescheduled her presentation at St. Joseph School for next Thursday, February 9th to speak to our children in grades 1-4. She will teach conflict resolution strategies to our children to help them solve disagreements in an appropriate manner and to help make our great school Bully-Free.

 

Faculty Meeting/ 1:00 pm Dismissal

The February faculty meeting is scheduled for next Friday (February, 10th) due to Catholic Schools Week. This will be a 1:00 pm dismissal day.

 

2012 Read to Succeed

Reminder:  Read to Succeed  forms for grades K-6th students should be turned into your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, February 10th.   K-6th grade students must read 6 hours and complete a reading log to be eligible for Six Flags tickets.

 

School Improvement Orientation Meeting

There will be a School Improvement Meeting for all School Improvement Committee members on Thursday, February 16th in the school building.


STUCO sponsored Trivia Night

The STUCO sponsored Trivia Night will be on Friday, February 17th. This event is for students in grades 5-8 and runs from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.


Texas Hold ‘Em

The next Texas Hold ’Em, sponsored by the Playground Committee, will be held Saturday, February 18th.  Registration begins at 6:00 p.m.  Doors close at 7:00 p.m.  $30.00 entry fee and one Re-buy @ $20.00.  Beverages and snacks will be provided.  Feel free to bring your own as well


4-H Bingo

4-H will hold a Bingo on Sunday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.  All ages are welcome.  Bingo cards are $1.00 each. 


Presidents Day (Snow Day Option)

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 20th in observance of Presidents Day.

 

Mission Carnival

The annual St. Joseph Mission Carnival will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This event is open to the St. Joseph Parish Community. All proceeds will go towards the Missions.

Tickets will go on sale on Monday, February 13th.  Tickets are .25 cents each or 5 for $1.00.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.


Ash Wednesday

The prayerful season of Lent begins with the observance of Ash Wednesday on February 22nd.


Parent Club Fish Fry 02/24/12

The St. Joseph Parent Club will sponsor the first of their highly acclaimed Fish Fry’s on Friday, February 24th from 5:00-7:30 pm. Come on out with the family and enjoy good company and some of the best fish around these parts.


**ATTENTION** 7th & 8th Grade Parents

There is a Confirmation Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th to make up for the meeting that was cancelled on Wednesday, January 11th.


Cafeteria Payment Reminder

Parents, please check your cafeteria balances on FastDirect or call the school office for your balance. Some families have not made any or only one payment since school started.  If you stay current, you will avoid having a large balance at the end of the year.  Turn in payments to the school office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

St. Joseph School… A great place to grow

 

Attention:  Parents

The following parents have volunteered to help out during Catholic Schools’ week.  If you are unable to work, please contact JoAnn Schaefer (332-8674) or Renee Gorman (887-0856).  Thank you.

 

·         Teacher Appreciation Day (February 2nd) Needed from 10:45 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. to supervise children during lunch/recess.

·         Chili Supper (February 3rd) Needed from 4:45 to 7:00 p.m. to serve food and clean up

Congratulations

Congratulations to two of our young artists! St. Joseph School sponsored a “design a Catholic Schools Week bookmark” contest. Congratulations to Grace, the winner in grades 4-6 and Kelly in grades 7-8. A copy of the bookmark design will be distributed to the students during Catholic Schools Week. Grace and Kelly will receive a copy of the book of their choice from Scholastic Reader. Great job you two!


REAP Team Presentation

There will be a Chastity Awareness presentation for grades 7/8. The presentation will be held in the cafeteria next Monday, January 30th at 7:00 pm. The presenters are members of the highly acclaimed REAP Team.

 

STUCO Penny Wars

Student Council is sponsoring a Penny Wars during the week of January 30th to February 3rd.  Bring in pennies, coins or cash.  Put your pennies in your grade’s bucket and your silver coins or cash in other grades’ buckets to cancel out theirs.  Whichever class has the most pennies at the end, WINS!


Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week will be from Jan. 30th – Feb. 3rd. Please see the list below for all the activities planned for this exciting week of celebrating our Catholic Identity!

  • 01/30/12 Vocations Day (8:30-10:00) & Spelling Bee (1:45-2:45)
  • 01/31/12 Student Appreciation Day
  • 02/01/12 Community Day/Wall of Fame after 8:00 am Liturgy

Big G Box Top Contest

Reminder:  This is the last week to bring in the Big G box tops.  Contest ends Friday, February 3.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Rachel in Grade 4 for winning the St. Joseph School Grades 1-4 Spelling Bee on Monday, January 24th.  Great job Rachel!


Bishop Rice to Celebrate “Vocations Mass”

On Tuesday, February 1st, Bishop Rice will celebrate an 8:00 a.m. Vocations Mass at St. Joseph Church. Afterwards, Bishop Rice along with Sr. Linda Marking will speak to the children about religious vocations.


Parent Club News

·         All pizza orders were due today.  If you had wanted to place an order and did not get your  form in on time, please call Tonya at 636-332-1121.  All of the pizza orders will be filled and available for pick-up on the evening of the Chili Supper, February 4th.

·         We still need 3 volunteers for Teacher Appreciation Day on Thursday, February 3rd. We will need you to help supervise children from 11:00 am until approximately 12:15 pm.  If you are available to help us out, please call Sara Orf at 636-327-4634.

·         The Chili Supper will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. We are asking every family to bring two desserts for the chili supper.  Workers should report for duty no later than 4:30 p.m.  We can always use additional help.  If you are available, please volunteer.

·         Uniform Exchange --- We will have tables set out with used uniforms.  If your child/children have outgrown their present uniform or you need another uniform, now is the time to look over our supply.

 

Catholic Schools Week- We Are Alive in Christ

Catholic Schools Week will run from January 30th-February 4th.  The kids are excited to celebrate our commitment to Catholic education at St. Joseph School.  The schedule of events includes:

  • 01/31  (Monday)      Student Appreciation Day/Spelling Bee
  • 02/01  (Tuesday)     Vocations Day/Guest Speakers/Academic Bowl @ ICD for 8th
  • 02/02  (Wednesday) Community Day/Wall of Fame/Donut Social
  • 02/03  (Thursday)   Teacher Appreciation Day/ Parent Club Sponsored Luncheon
  • 02/04  (Friday)        Open House/Chili Supper , 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.


Attention 8th Grade Parents

We are in need of an 8th grade parent who is willing to drive/chaperone 8th graders to ICD for the Academic Bowl on February 1st from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you are available to help with this event please call the school office at (636) 332-5672. The St. Louis Archdiocese requires proof of insurance for any volunteer drivers.


Re-registration for the 2011-12 School Year

Re-registration packets for next school year will soon be available.  We need this information to help us plan for the next school year.  Grade placements, combinations, use of rooms, and textbook purchases are some of the considerations. The Finance Board met in January and the decision was made to increase the stewardship donation $1.00 per child per week.  All other finances and fees will remain the same.  Listed below are important dates concerning re-registration.

 

02/04/11        A table will be set up at the Open House/Chili supper.  Please stop by and pick

up your family re-registration packet.

02/08/11        Re-registration packets will be sent home to parents who were unable to pick up their

 packet at the Open House/Chili supper

02/10/11        All re-registration forms are due

03/03/11       Re-registration fee of $100.00 per child is due

05/17/11        All remaining fees are due


 

Faculty Meeting/1:00 p.m. Dismissal

The February Faculty Meeting will be on Friday, February 11th, due to Catholic Schools Week. This will be a 1:00 pm dismissal day.

 

Dental Hygiene Month

February is Dental Hygiene Month. In an effort to promote proper dental hygiene we have scheduled a presentation by a local area dentist. On Thursday, February 17th, Dr. Jennifer Plessner D.D.S. will be teaching our students how to brush & floss properly along with information outlining how food choices can affect our dental health. All are welcome to attend.


Presidents Day/NO SCHOOL (Snow Day Option)

Presidents Day is on Monday, February 21st. As of this writing we will have NO SCHOOL on this date.    

 

Missions Presentation

On Friday, February 25th, Monsignor Blood will be giving a presentation that will outline the Church’s effort to support the Missions.  The meeting will begin at 1:30 pm in the school cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.
