St. Joseph School… A great place to grow

 

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our 1st and 2nd graders! They won a pizza party for their awesome behavior in the library. Since returning from Christmas break they kept the library the cleanest, returned their books in a timely manner and used their indoor voices consistently in the library. Great job kiddos!

 

School Board Elections

We will have three positions opening up on the St. Joseph School Board this summer. Please think of someone –or- consider nominating yourself to fill these important positions. You can nominate someone for this great honor at the June 23, 24, 30 and July 1st Masses. The elections will be held on the weekends of July 14/15 and July 21/22   after all Masses.

 

Parent Club

Parent Club is in need of volunteers to serve as officers for the 2012-13 school year.  Please consider serving in a leadership capacity in an organization that provides so many good things for our children.


Golf Committee News

The St Joseph Golf Committee is asking each school family to contribute one attendance prize (approx. value $10) for our annual golf tournament on June 9th. The funds from the golf tournament go to our Building Fund. All attendance prizes can be turned in to the classroom teachers. Thank you!

 

Fees for the 2012-13 School Year

The remaining fees for next school year ($50.00 per child) were due Thursday, May 3rd.  Please send your check to the school office as soon as possible.  Thank you.

 

Jack & Jill Softball Tournament

The annual St. Joseph vs. St. Theodore softball tournament will be held this Saturday, May 12th at Josephville Ball Park.  In case of rain, the tournament will be held on Saturday, May 19th.

 

St. Joseph Yearbook

Yearbook flyers were sent home this week with each of the students.  The cost of each yearbook is $19.50.  Please make checks payable to St. Joseph School.  Yearbooks will be distributed at the Open House in August.


Early Childhood Closing Program/Last Day for 8th grade

The Pre-K and Kindergarten classes will have their closing program at 10:00 am on Friday, May 18th, in the school cafeteria.  This is also the last day for our 8th graders. The 8th grade class will be dismissed after the Early Childhood Closing Program has ended and their families have dispersed. This typically would be around 11:15ish am.


St. Paul Knights of Columbus Clay Shoot

The Dan Shilharvey Memorial Clay Shoot will be held on May 19, 2012 at Blackhawk Shooting Club from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  The cost is $240.00 for a 4 man team or $60.00 per person.  Youth 16 and under is $30.00 per person.  Contact John Luetkenhaus @ 314-609-8815 if you have any questions.

 

Volunteer Mass

The students and staff of St. Joseph School will be offering up a Mass for our awesome parish volunteers on Wednesday, May 23rd.  All school volunteers are invited to come to the 8:00 am Liturgy in thanksgiving for your dedication to our great school


Last Day of School/ “VBS” Casual Day

The students will be dismissed for the summer at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 23rd. Students may dress casually with a .50 donation to the St. Theodore Vacation Bible School.


8th Grade Graduation
8th Grade graduation will be on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm. Lifetouch will need everyone in Church by 6:00 pm for a group photograph.  


Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School runs from June 25-June 29th, from 9:00 a.m. thru 12:00 noon at St. Theodore School.  On-line registration only at STTEDVBS.COM for both child/youth volunteer sign ups. Registration deadline is May 24th. Fees are $30 for 1st child and $20 for each additional sibling . Please contact Pam Riggleman at 636-639-6093 or Jen Wilmes at JenniferWilmes@msn.com.


Volleyball Sign-ups

St. Joseph’s CYA is having volleyball signups for girls ages 4th -8th grades ($50 per player).  Boys or High School girls’ teams are also available. Registration deadline is May 31st. Contact Pam Riggleman at 639-6093 for more information.

 

Volunteer Opportunity!!!

Please consider volunteering as the CYA Parish representative. This position represents a great opportunity for a working parent to stay involved in their children’s school community. Contact either Trish or myself if you are willing to serve your child’s school in this capacity.

 

Student Accident Insurance

Student accident insurance is available to any family in our school who may be interested.  This coverage is offered through K & K Insurance Group, Inc. a company that has been dealing with student accident insurance for many years.  The plans are underwritten by Nationwide Life Insurance Company, an A.M. Best A+ “Superior” rated carrier.  To find more information about the program, access K & K’s website at www.studentinsurance-kk.com.  (The website will be available by July 1, 2012).  Online enrollment is available at this site.  You can also obtain printed information through the school office.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Rachel in Grade 4 for winning the St. Joseph School Grades 1-4 Spelling Bee on Monday, January 24th.  Great job Rachel!


Bishop Rice to Celebrate “Vocations Mass”

On Tuesday, February 1st, Bishop Rice will celebrate an 8:00 a.m. Vocations Mass at St. Joseph Church. Afterwards, Bishop Rice along with Sr. Linda Marking will speak to the children about religious vocations.


Parent Club News

·         All pizza orders were due today.  If you had wanted to place an order and did not get your  form in on time, please call Tonya at 636-332-1121.  All of the pizza orders will be filled and available for pick-up on the evening of the Chili Supper, February 4th.

·         We still need 3 volunteers for Teacher Appreciation Day on Thursday, February 3rd. We will need you to help supervise children from 11:00 am until approximately 12:15 pm.  If you are available to help us out, please call Sara Orf at 636-327-4634.

·         The Chili Supper will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. We are asking every family to bring two desserts for the chili supper.  Workers should report for duty no later than 4:30 p.m.  We can always use additional help.  If you are available, please volunteer.

·         Uniform Exchange --- We will have tables set out with used uniforms.  If your child/children have outgrown their present uniform or you need another uniform, now is the time to look over our supply.

 

Catholic Schools Week- We Are Alive in Christ

Catholic Schools Week will run from January 30th-February 4th.  The kids are excited to celebrate our commitment to Catholic education at St. Joseph School.  The schedule of events includes:

  • 01/31  (Monday)      Student Appreciation Day/Spelling Bee
  • 02/01  (Tuesday)     Vocations Day/Guest Speakers/Academic Bowl @ ICD for 8th
  • 02/02  (Wednesday) Community Day/Wall of Fame/Donut Social
  • 02/03  (Thursday)   Teacher Appreciation Day/ Parent Club Sponsored Luncheon
  • 02/04  (Friday)        Open House/Chili Supper , 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.


Attention 8th Grade Parents

We are in need of an 8th grade parent who is willing to drive/chaperone 8th graders to ICD for the Academic Bowl on February 1st from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. If you are available to help with this event please call the school office at (636) 332-5672. The St. Louis Archdiocese requires proof of insurance for any volunteer drivers.


Re-registration for the 2011-12 School Year

Re-registration packets for next school year will soon be available.  We need this information to help us plan for the next school year.  Grade placements, combinations, use of rooms, and textbook purchases are some of the considerations. The Finance Board met in January and the decision was made to increase the stewardship donation $1.00 per child per week.  All other finances and fees will remain the same.  Listed below are important dates concerning re-registration.

 

02/04/11        A table will be set up at the Open House/Chili supper.  Please stop by and pick

up your family re-registration packet.

02/08/11        Re-registration packets will be sent home to parents who were unable to pick up their

 packet at the Open House/Chili supper

02/10/11        All re-registration forms are due

03/03/11       Re-registration fee of $100.00 per child is due

05/17/11        All remaining fees are due


 

Faculty Meeting/1:00 p.m. Dismissal

The February Faculty Meeting will be on Friday, February 11th, due to Catholic Schools Week. This will be a 1:00 pm dismissal day.

 

Dental Hygiene Month

February is Dental Hygiene Month. In an effort to promote proper dental hygiene we have scheduled a presentation by a local area dentist. On Thursday, February 17th, Dr. Jennifer Plessner D.D.S. will be teaching our students how to brush & floss properly along with information outlining how food choices can affect our dental health. All are welcome to attend.


Presidents Day/NO SCHOOL (Snow Day Option)

Presidents Day is on Monday, February 21st. As of this writing we will have NO SCHOOL on this date.    

 

Missions Presentation

On Friday, February 25th, Monsignor Blood will be giving a presentation that will outline the Church’s effort to support the Missions.  The meeting will begin at 1:30 pm in the school cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.
