Congratulations!
Congratulations to three of our VFW writing contest finalists! I am proud to announce that Christine &#160;&#160;(1st place), Katelynn (2nd place) and Kelly (3rd place) were honored for their work on the&#160; &#8220;Patriots Pen&#8221; writing contest sponsored by the Wentzville VFW post. Each of the girls received a monetary award for their efforts. Bravo girls!!!

Open House/ Chili Supper/Re-registration
Tonight is the Open House/Chili supper from 5:00 &#8211; 7:00 p.m. &#160;Re-registration packets will be available for pick-up during this event. Thank you for picking them up this evening. &#160;Please read the blue Finance Sheet enclosed in your packet as there are some increases for the 2012-2013 school year.&#160; We ask you to return the re-registration form, along with your check for $100.00 registration fee per child, no later than Friday, February 17th.

Confirmation Meeting
There will be a Confirmation Meeting for Grades 7/8 next Wednesday, February 8th at 7:00 pm in the school cafeteria.

Conflict Resolution Presentation
Saundra Barker from Catholic Family Services has rescheduled her presentation at St. Joseph School for next Thursday, February 9th to speak to our children in grades 1-4. She will teach conflict resolution strategies to our children to help them solve disagreements in an appropriate manner and to help make our great school Bully-Free.

Faculty Meeting/ 1:00 pm Dismissal
The February faculty meeting is scheduled for next Friday (February, 10th) due to Catholic Schools Week. This will be a 1:00 pm dismissal day.

2012 Read to Succeed
Reminder:&#160; Read to Succeed &#160;forms for grades K-6th students should be turned into your child&#8217;s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, February 10th. &#160;&#160;K-6th grade students must read 6 hours and complete a reading log to be eligible for Six Flags tickets.
&#160;
School Improvement Orientation Meeting 
There will be a School Improvement Meeting for all School Improvement Committee members on Thursday, February 16th in the school building.

STUCO sponsored Trivia Night
The STUCO sponsored Trivia Night will be on Friday, February 17th. This event is for students in grades 5-8 and runs from 6:00 &#8211; 9:00 pm.
Texas Hold &#8216;Em
The next Texas Hold &#8217;Em, sponsored by the Playground Committee, will be held Saturday, February 18th. &#160;Registration begins at 6:00 p.m.&#160; Doors close at 7:00 p.m.&#160; $30.00 entry fee and one Re-buy @ $20.00.&#160; Beverages and snacks will be provided.&#160; Feel free to bring your own as well

4-H Bingo
4-H will hold a Bingo on Sunday, February 19th at 1:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.&#160; All ages are welcome.&#160; Bingo cards are $1.00 each.&#160; 

Presidents Day (Snow Day Option)
There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 20th in observance of Presidents Day.

Mission Carnival 
The annual St. Joseph Mission Carnival will be held on Tuesday, February 21st, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This event is open to the St. Joseph Parish Community. All proceeds will go towards the Missions.
Tickets will go on sale on Monday, February 13th.&#160; Tickets are .25 cents each or 5 for $1.00.&#160; Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Ash Wednesday
The prayerful season of Lent begins with the observance of Ash Wednesday on February 22nd.

Parent Club Fish Fry 02/24/12 
The St. Joseph Parent Club will sponsor the first of their highly acclaimed Fish Fry&#8217;s on Friday, February 24th from 5:00-7:30 pm. Come on out with the family and enjoy good company and some of the best fish around these parts.

**ATTENTION** 7th &#38; 8th Grade Parents
There is a Confirmation Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th to make up for the meeting that was cancelled on Wednesday, January 11th.

Cafeteria Payment Reminder
Parents, please check your cafeteria balances on FastDirect or call the school office for your balance. Some families have not made any or only one payment since school started.&#160; If you stay current, you will avoid having a large balance at the end of the year.&#160; Turn in payments to the school office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Congratulations to two of our young artists! St. Joseph School sponsored a &#8220;design a Catholic Schools Week bookmark&#8221; contest. Congratulations to Grace, the winner in grades 4-6 and Kelly in grades 7-8. A copy of the bookmark design will be distributed to the students during Catholic Schools Week. Grace and Kelly will receive a copy of the book of their choice from Scholastic Reader. Great job you two! 

REAP Team Presentation 
There will be a Chastity Awareness presentation for grades 7/8. The presentation will be held in the cafeteria next Monday, January 30th at 7:00 pm. The presenters are members of the highly acclaimed REAP Team.

STUCO Penny Wars
Student Council is sponsoring a Penny Wars during the week of January 30th to February 3rd.&#160; Bring in pennies, coins or cash.&#160; Put your pennies in your grade&#8217;s bucket and your silver coins or cash in other grades&#8217; buckets to cancel out theirs.&#160; Whichever class has the most pennies at the end, WINS!

Pro-Life Trip
Our 8th grade students will take part in the annual pilgrimage to Washington D.C. from January 21st - 24th to protest against the infamous Roe &#8211;vs.- Wade Supreme Court ruling which legalized abortion throughout the U.S. I ask that we pray for our students as they travel to our nation&#8217;s capital to represent our parish community&#8217;s opposition to this immoral and unjust law.&#160; We pray for their safety and their actions during this trip.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Christine (7th), Katelynn (8th) and Kelly (8th) for a job well done! They were recently entered into a writing contest for the VFW. They were asked to answer the question: &#8220;Why I am proud of my country&#8221;. I am pleased to announce that they have been selected as finalists in the writing competition. They are invited to attend a banquet on January 28th to honor their accomplishment and find out where they placed among finalists. Congratulations, girls!

Playground Committee Pizza Sale Fundraiser
The playground committee pizza sale will run until Friday, January 20th. &#160;The top selling student will receive a $25.00 SCRIP card of their choice. The top selling class will receive a Pizza Party/Dress Down Day. All proceeds will go towards finishing the playground for our children.

Beginning Monday, January 9, until Friday, February 3, St. Joseph School will be having a contest for collecting the Big G box tops.&#160; The classroom who collects the most box tops during this time, will win a &#8220;dress down day&#8221;.&#160; Please check all items in your pantry for the box tops.&#160; Many manufacturers participate in the Big G box top program.&#160; Some of the Kleenex boxes have them on the bottom.&#160;

St. Dominic Winter Cheerleading Clinic
The 2012 St. Dominic Cheerleading Clinic will be on Sunday, January 15th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the S.D. High School Gymnasium. This event is open to all K-8 students at St. Joseph School. We must have your check and completed form no later than Tuesday morning, January 10th.

Martin Luther King Day/ NO SCHOOL (Snow Day Option)

The staff of St. Joseph School would like to extend warm holiday wishes to all of our school families for a blessed Christmas season. We hope everyone has a very happy and restful break filled with lots of quality time with your family and loved ones. We continue to be thankful for the opportunity to work in partnership with our parents to teach the children both spiritually and academically. We are also very proud of how well the kiddos performed at the Christmas play last Saturday! Bravo to everyone! We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday, January 3rd when classes resume. I am pleased to announce the 2012 St. Joseph School Wall of Fame inductees.&#160; Congratulations to Mrs. Agnes Schipper and Mr. John Wilmes who were chosen by you, the parishioners of St. Joseph Parish.&#160; We would like to thank these two individuals for serving as excellent role models for our school community.&#160; We look forward to honoring them during our Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, February 1st after the 8:00 a.m. liturgy.

Thank you to all of the folks who worked so hard to put on such a wonderful play performance last Saturday at St. Paul. Mrs. Connie Bampton along with several other notable volunteers including: Ms. Tracy Boehmer, Miss Ann Allen, Mrs. Sue Perry and Mrs. Sandi Bampton were crucial elements to the success of this year&#8217;s extravaganza! Due to circumstances that could not be helped, we have decided not to provide a catered dinner at our New Year&#8217;s Eve Fest.....instead here are our revised plans for the Party!&#160; Cost is $40 a couple or $20 a person.&#160; 
We will provide a DJ, Beer, Wine, Soft drinks, Water, Light snacks, and a Champagne Toast.&#160; PLEASE BRING AN APPETIZER OR DISH TO SHARE.&#160; We will still have the lobby set up with multiple tables to play cards, games, Texas Hold'em, Left-right-center, etc for those that do not like to dance.&#160; Please spread the news to all your family and friends and make this First Annual New Year&#8217;s Fest a Big Hit and help us raise money for our school.&#160;

Thanks to a generous grant, the students of St. Joseph School will have the opportunity to experience a free live performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall on Thursday, January 5th.&#160; A signed permission slip is required to allow your child(ren) to attend this event.

The annual St. Joseph School Christmas Play will begin tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul School. Come on out for some great family fun. We believe you are in for a real treat!!&#160; We are asking each family to bring two (2) dozen cookies to the play.&#160; This year we have the opportunity to have a professional recording of the Christmas play at no cost to the school.&#160; DVDs will be available for purchase at $15.00 each plus tax.&#160;

STUCO Sponsored Adopt-a-Family Movie Fundraiser
When:&#160; December 21 at 1:00 p.m.&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Where:&#160; School&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Cost:&#160; $1.00 donation for movie (The Polar Express), popcorn, and dress down in appropriate pajamas (bring to school).&#160; Candy will be sold for 75 cents and drinks (Capri Sun) for 25 cents.

The Playground Committee is sponsoring a Parents Night Out/Movie Night next Friday, December 9th from 6:00 &#8211; 10:00 p.m. &#160;&#160;Children will play games and watch a movie. &#160;Cost is $5.00 per child.&#160; There will be adult supervision along with 7th/8th grade volunteers.&#160; Light snacks will be provided or children may bring their own snacks (no peanuts).&#160; Children can also bring pillows, stuffed animals or whatever makes them comfortable while watching a movie.&#160; Maximum number of children accepted is 50.&#160; Reserve your spot now by calling Tonya Hawkins at 636-332-1121.

Texas Hold&#8217;Em
The next Texas Hold&#8217;Em, sponsored by the Playground Committee, will be held Saturday, December 10th. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m.&#160; Doors close at 7:00 p.m.&#160; $30.00 entry fee and one Re-buy @ $20.00.&#160; Beverages and snacks will be provided.&#160; Feel free to bring your own as well

Cold Weather
A reminder to parents:&#160; Now that the weather has turned colder, children should come to school with coats, gloves and hats.&#160; The children will continue to have outside recess every day until the weather turns extremely cold.

Christmas Play Practice
The all day play practice at St. Paul will be on Friday, December 16th. A permission slip has been distributed to each of the students. Please make sure to sign the permission slip and return it to your child(ren)&#8217;s teacher by&#160; Wednesday, December 14th. These permission slips are mandated by the Archdiocese in order to allow your child to leave our school campus.

Christmas Play/DVD
The annual St. Joseph School Christmas Play will be held at St. Paul on Saturday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. Come on out for some great family fun. We believe you are in for a real treat!!&#160; Please note attached information as to the student&#8217;s dress for the play. This year we have the opportunity to have a professional recording of the Christmas play at no cost to the school.&#160; DVDs will be available for purchase at $15.00 each plus tax.&#160; An order form envelope is attached.

The Sheldon Concert Hall
Thanks to a generous grant, the students of St. Joseph School will have the opportunity to experience a live performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall on Thursday,January 5th at no cost. We will be sending home permission slips on Monday, December 19th and request that they be returned by Thursday, December 22nd (1:00 pm dismissal day). We would like to have all slips in before we break for the Christmas holidays.

Christmas classroom parties will begin around 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 22nd. These should wrap up around 12:45. There will be 1:00 p.m. dismissal this day.

In Thanksgiving
We, the faculty and staff, are very humbled and thankful for all of the gifts that are bestowed upon us daily. We are thankful for the children that we are entrusted to help grow, spiritually and academically. We are thankful to our wonderful parents, for their steadfast support in our endeavor to educate the children of Josephville. We are thankful for the support and guidance of our beloved pastor, Fr. Huber, and our beautiful parish community. &#160;Lastly, we are thankful for the loving gift of family that God has given to each of us. &#160;

Classroom Patron Saints
Each homeroom is busy selecting a particular Saint to venerate this year as their homeroom&#8217;s patron&#160; &#8211;or- patroness. &#160;Once selected, the children will research their Saint and decorate their doorways with images that will help to remind them to try to live a Saintly life. &#160;Fr. Huber will come to school to bless the Saint inspired doorways on Tuesday, November 22nd after the 8:00 a.m. Liturgy.

Getting ready for changes to the Catholic Mass
As you may well know, there are some pretty significant changes to the Catholic Liturgy coming at the start of the Advent Season. &#160;Last week, Mr. Mark Ostrowski explained the changes to the Mass to the children in grades 1-8. &#160;He will conduct a brief refresher session with the kiddos on Tuesday, November 22nd.

Early Dismissal/Thanksgiving Break/ Playground Committee CARDINAL DRESS DOWN DAY
Students will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd for Thanksgiving Break. &#160;With a 50 cent donation, students may dress down to celebrate the Cardinals 11th world championship.&#160; All proceeds go towards playground improvement.&#160; Classes resume on Monday, November 28th.

Blood Drive
There will be a Blood Drive sponsored by the St. Paul Knights of Columbus on Sunday, November 27th from 8:30 a.m. till 12:30 pm at the St. Paul Knights of Columbus Hall. Advent Season Begins
The Advent Season begins on Sunday, November 27th. The students of St. Joseph School will participate in Advent Prayer Services each Monday morning leading up to Christmas.

Parents Night Out/Movie Night
The Playground Committee is sponsoring a Parents Night Out/Movie Night on Friday, December 9th from 6:00 &#8211; 10:00 p.m. &#160;&#160;Children will play games and watch a movie. &#160;Cost is $5.00 per child.&#160; There will be adult supervision along with 7th/8th grade volunteers.&#160; Light snacks will be provided or children may bring their own snacks (no peanuts).&#160; Children can also bring pillows, stuffed animals or whatever makes them comfortable while watching a movie.&#160; Maximum number of children accepted is 50.&#160; Reserve your spot now by calling Tonya Hawkins at 636-332-1121.
